MAINSTREAM VS OLD SCHOOL

Many old school mc’s were lyrical monsters like Rakim , Krs one , Big L , Big daddy cane ect. However Despite popular belief Old school mc’s weren’t all lyrical in fact many of them were very simple in word play , vocabulary , flow & many other aspects. but since this is the case why were they excepted? when rappers like lil b and soldja boi aren’t due to lyrical simplicity? well for the most part many of these mc’s were the first of there kind so they were excepted as originators despite not being lyrical geniuses. another reason why is..

Both SUBJECT & LYRICS are needed to be looked at as a talented mc. you have some rappers that embrace lyrical law & are beasts in there own right but the subjects they rap on are shallow & generic subjects like Money , cars , clothes , sex , drugs & murder. On the other hand some rappers reject lyrical law but rap on deep subjects that make you sit down and better examine the world around you. most old school mc’s had both or one or the other but now…

The main difference between today’s rappers & the rappers of old are obvious and depressing. The majority of rappers today Reject lyrical law completely and if they do embrace it they have no subject weak rhymes filled with generic substance. this is what hip hop has fallen into some say its dead others say its alive & well… I say its underground. The majority of underground rappers are similar to the way hip hop used to be however im not saying every mainstream hip hop artist is weak and generic in nature but the majority is.

whos fault is this? who did this to rap music?… We did

an artist cannot thrive with support there were there at because of people like you & me. if we as the people don’t demand more the industry will continue to force feed the masses dead music. just Imagine MILLIONS of future human beings with a distorted view of music because all they can remember from there childhood were weak artists… the future is dark musically but i digress…

I continue to bump my underground & old school but that doesn’t change the fact that its mainstream hip hop that runs the world & its mainstream hip hop that’s dead.
